The New Mexico Child Support Enforcement Division (CSED)
“can assist with collecting child support on behalf of New Mexico’s children. CSED can help establish paternity, child support obligations, collect child support and enforce child support court orders. Certain tools can be used to ensure compliance with child support orders such as wage withholding, income tax refund intercepts, driver and professional license suspension, game and fish license suspension and passport denials.” — CSED
Overview
If you’re a resident of New Mexico, you may be wondering how child support works in this state. Here’s what you need to know.
In New Mexico, child support is calculated using the income shares model. This means that the total amount of child support is based on the combined income of both parents. The court will then determine how much each parent should contribute based on their income and the number of overnight visits each parent has with the child.
There are a few different ways to receive child support in New Mexico. The first is through wage withholding, which means that the non-custodial parent’s employer will deduct child support from their paycheck and send it to the custodial parent. The second is through direct payment, where the non-custodial parent makes payments directly to the custodial parent. And finally, parents can set up a voluntary agreement, where they agree on an amount of child support and make arrangements for payment between themselves.
