Calculate Minnesota Child Support

Minnesota Department of Human Services’ Child Support Division (MDHS)

“Minnesota’s child support program benefits children by enforcing parental responsibility for their support.

The Minnesota Department of Human Services’ Child Support Division supervises the child support program. County child support offices administer it by working with parents to establish and enforce support orders. The department also works with employers and other payors, financial institutions, other states and many more to implement federal and state laws for the program.” — MDHS

Overview

Minnesota child support is calculated using a formula that takes into account the income of both parents, the number of children, and the amount of time each parent spends with the children. Child support can be paid by either parent, but is typically paid by the parent who earns more money. Child support can be paid directly to the other parent, or it can be paid through the Minnesota Child Support Payment Center. Minnesota child support payments are typically made on a monthly basis.

Child support can be modified if there is a significant change in the income of either parent, or if the amount of time each parent spends with the children changes. Minnesota child support payments are typically made through automatic withdrawal from the payer’s bank account.

Child support can be a difficult and confusing topic, but there are many resources available to help parents understand their rights and responsibilities. The Minnesota Department of Human Services has a website with information about Minnesota child support, including how to calculate child support, how to modify child support, and how to enforce child support. The Minnesota Child Support Payment Center also has a website with information about Minnesota child support, including how to make payments and how to receive payments. Parents who have questions about Minnesota child support can also contact the Minnesota Child Support Enforcement Division and check out our resources and child support calculator below.
