Office of the Attorney General
The Office of the Attorney General provides services for parents who wish to pay support or obtain a child support order.
The Office of the Attorney General’s (OAG) Child Support Division works hard to make sure that children receive the financial support they need and deserve from both of their parents. However, the child support office can not determine custody. Custody is decided at the court level.
The child support program is a state and federal partnership. The federal government provides funding to Texas to operate its child support program. In return, the states must meet certain requirements, such as establishing paternity and enforcing child support orders.
Free Services to the Public
The Child Support Division offers services to the public. The services are free of charge, and they are confidential. These services include locating an absent parent and establishing paternity. They will also assist with enforcing child support orders, adjusting child support payments, and collecting and distributing child support payments.

The amount of child support is based on the needs of the child and the net income of each parent. The court will also look at other things that could affect the decision such as different job earnings or how many children there are, in total.

Texas Child Support Order
Texas child support law requires both parents to provide financial support for their child or children. In certain circumstances, the OAG can enforce wage withholding in cases where the non-custodial parent is failing to make on-time support payments or maintain adequate health insurance or dental insurance (if ordered by the court).
